Join us for the screening of "Gender Matters: A virtual discussion on violence against women" while enjoying some refreshments.
As part of the Young Women's National Leadership Summit, the YWCA and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) invited participants aged 17+ from across North America to take part in a conversation with three outstanding role models and leaders in the fight for human rights. Focusing on the subject of gender-based violence, the panellists discuss the issues that women are facing today, and how we can work together to create a fairer and safer society for all.
This film's conversation begins where a previous NFB film, "Status Quo? The Unfinished Business of Feminism in Canada," ended. Status Quo may be viewed for free prior to attending the screening of Gender Matters, but be assured it is not necessary in order to follow the discussion of the amazing panellists in Gender Matters.
What's a movie without popcorn?!
We will provide popcorn to enjoy with a soft drink. Cons and Kernels popcorn is owned and operated by a young woman who has lived experience in Canada's penal justice system and now advocates for the alarming numbers of women being incarcerated in our country.
Popcorn so good it's criminal!
Orange the World
We will also be serving healthy and meaningful oranges so we are all part of oranging the world during this year's #16Days.
Feel free to bring your brown bag lunch to this event.
We hope to do a group photo so if you would consider wearing ORANGE that would be appreciated.
