UWSA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The following position takes office at the

University of Waterloo Staff Association (UWSA)

Special General Meeting on February 23, 2017

President-elect

One Position at a three-year term:

President-Elect, February 2017 – October 2017

President, November 2017 – October 2018 (full-time role, plus a stipend)

Past President, November 2018 – October 2019

Please consider serving the University of Waterloo community by becoming a candidate for this Board position or nominating a staff member. To become a candidate, complete and submit the Nomination form (PDF),  before 12:01 pm on January 25, 2017.

Make a difference!  Staff plays a vital role in the Waterloo community, and you can help to define and shape that role by serving on the UWSA’s Board of Directors. Waterloo is one of Canada’s leading universities, and aspires to be an employer of choice. With your enthusiasm and commitment, the UWSA can advocate on behalf of staff, address issues and concerns, and improve our workplace.

We need a strong Staff Association that advocates for staff on topics like salaries and benefits and helps to shape University policies and procedures that govern staff working environments. As a UWSA Director, you represent not only UWSA members, but all University Support Staff. You will have the opportunity to play an important and vital role on UWSA standing committees as well as University-wide committees:

  • Provost's Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC)
    PACSC meets monthly to determine the appropriate salary recommendations for the coming year(s) and other matters concerning compensation for University Support Staff.
  • Staff Relations Committee (SRC)
    SRC meets monthly to discuss any matters of concern with respect to staff—University relations or staff working conditions.  The SRC’s mandate includes revising policies affecting staff.

Release time from your regular staffing duties plus a stipend: staff who serve as UWSA board members are granted the time spent in participating on University-level committee meetings such as PACSC and SRC.  The University of Waterloo grants the president-elect and past president three days per month, the secretary and treasurer two days per month, and directors one day per month release time. The UWSA president position is now a full time (100% release time) position, and is eligible to receive an annual stipend of approximately $10,000.00 paid by UWSA. (The amount of the stipend shall be equal to 10% of a 35 hr. USG13 Job Value as per the UW Salary Scale that is active on the date the President takes office.)

Meet the Candidate(s). As a nominated candidate for a board position, you will have an opportunity to speak directly to the Area Reps. Please attend the Area Rep Meeting on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. in NH 3318 and be prepared to speak for 5 to 10 minutes about yourself and why you are the best candidate for this role.
