Maybe you feel like you blinked and missed September! If you have a little more time on your plate in October and November, the Centre for Career Action has several offerings for Waterloo staff. November brings two big events. At “Connections: The Art of Powerful Conversations,” Stuart Knight will offer networking tips for real people—especially for those who dread small talk. The event runs from 3:00 until 4:30 on Wednesday, November 3rd. You can practise what you learn the very next day, at the Centre for Career Action’s name change launch party (Thursday, November 4th, from noon until 1:30). No registration is necessary for our launch party, and free registration for Stuart Knight’s event—Connections: The Art of Powerful Conversations—will soon be available online at uwaterloo.ca/career-action/.

Why the focus on networking? Because having a cross-campus network is one of the distinguishing characteristics of people whose careers advance quickly. You can learn what other traits impact career advancement at Waterloo in the staff workshop, “Trends in Leadership from Waterloo Recruiters” (Tuesday, October 19th). It’s one of several workshops on offer to staff this semester. You can also explore career options using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, through a two-part workshop on the 18th and 25th. If you don’t understand the fuss about LinkedIn, or you’ve never heard of it, you can get introduced to this popular professional networking tool in a one-hour workshop on October 26th. Registration for all staff workshops is available at https://uwaterloo.ca/career-action/staff/.

Appointments and workshops with Liz can be booked on the Centre for Career Action website.
