SUMMARY:Department Seminar by Pang Du\, Virginia Tech.
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: THIS SEMINAR WILL BE GIVEN ONLINE.\n\nTWO-SAMPLE
TEST ON FUNSCALAR DATA WITH APPLICATION TO HEMODIALYSIS\nMONITORING BY RAM
AN SPECTROSCOPY\n\nTo achieve in-session monitoring of hemodialysis throug
h Raman\nspectroscopy\, it is necessary to compare data consist of Raman s
pectra\nand intensity values for specific biomarkers (e.g.\, urea) contain
ed in\nwaste dialysate used in hemodialysis treatement. This calls for the
 \ndevelopment of a two-sample test procedure for funscalar data\, data\n
that are a mix of functional and scalar variables. Despite a rich\nliterat
ure on univariate functional data testing procedures and a few\npublicatio
ns on multivariate functional data testing procedures\, there\nis no such
a testing procedure for funscalar data. In this work we\npropose the first
testing procedure for funscalar data\, generalizing\nthe functional data
approach in Horvath et al (2013). The test\nstatistic is based on the L_2
distance between the two mean funscalar\nobjects. Its asymptotic null dis
tribution and asymptotic power are\nstudied. We then demonstrate its perfo
rmance through extensive\nsimulations and its usefulness is through data c
ollected in our\nhemodialysis monitoring experiments.\n\nThis seminar will
be hosted by Webex. \n\nTo join\, please follow this link: Department S
