Bovas Abraham (professor emeritus) has been awarded the 2014 Shewhart Medal for technical leadership from the American Society for Quality

The citation reads “For outstanding contributions to quality improvement though research, teaching and consulting; and for leadership in professional societies and education and outreach through conference organization.”

Professor Jerome Friedman delivered a distinguished lecture on "Sparsity, Boosting and Ensemble Methods" on Friday, September 13, 2013. This event was jointly sponsored by Google and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.

Mary Hardy, David Saunders and Mike Xiaobai Zhu win best paper award

The paper "Market Consistent Valuation and Funding for Cash Balance Plans" won the best paper award at the International Actuarial Association Pension Benefit and Social Security (PBSS) Symposium, in Lyon, France in June 2013.

The authors of the paper are Mary Hardy, David Saunders and Mike Xiaobai Zhu.

Professor Bovas Abraham becomes honorary member of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC)

The SSC has awarded honorary membership to Professor Emeritus Bovas Abraham. The citation for the award reads:

To Bovas Abraham, for his fundamental contributions to the statistical sciences, advances in time series analysis, statistical methods for quality improvement, and industrial statistics, for dissemination of statistical methodology through authorship of textbooks, and for his service as founding president of the Business and Industrial Statistics Sections and President of the Statistical Society of Canada.
