Professor Yulia Gel won the 2014 Abdel El-Shaarawi Young Researcher’s Award

Professor Yulia Gel has been named by The International Environmetrics Society (TIES) as the Abdel El-Shaarawi Young Researcher’s Award winner for 2014.

The citation reads "for sustained and significant methodological contributions around high dimensional inference for temporal and spatial processes, spatiotemporal modeling, and robust nonparametric resampling approaches, for strong impact in areas such as climate change, hydrology, ecology and epidemiology, and for an outstanding professional contribution and outreach."

Carole Bernard receives PRMIA award

The Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA) presented Professor Carole Bernard with the Frontiers in Risk Management Award at the 2014 Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) symposium in Chicago.

The award recognizes Carole and colleague Steven Vanduffel (Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences and Solvay Business School) for their paper “A New Approach to Assessing Model Risk in High Dimensions.”

Congratulations to Yuchen Mei, winner of the SOA's 2014 ARC presentation prize

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Actuarial Research Conference (ARC), Education and Research Section, has awarded the top presentation prize to Waterloo PhD student Yuchen Mei. This annual SOA research conference was held at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Yuchen’s presentation was titled “Introduction to Housing Finance and Mortgage Insurance.”
