Bill Woodall, Allison Jones-Farmer, Stefan Steiner, and Charles Champ have received the 2014 American Society for Quality Statistics Division's Lloyd Nelson Award

Bill Woodall, Allison Jones-Farmer, Stefan Steiner, and Charles Champ have received the 2014 American Society for Quality Statistics Division's Lloyd Nelson Award for the article entitled “An Overview of Phase I Analysis for Process Improvement and Monitoring.” This paper appeared in the July 2014 issue of the Journal of Quality Technology (JQT), pp. 265-280. The award recognizes the JQT article from the previous year of "greatest immediate impact to practitioners".

Mingyu Fang, Jingong Zhang, and Kenneth Zhou are selected as new SOA Hickman Scholars

Congratulations to Mingyu Fang, Jingong Zhang, and Kenneth Zhou, Ph.D. students in actuarial science in our department, who will each receive a $20,000 stipend as three of the five newly selected Society of Actuaries (SOA) Hickman Scholars for the academic year of 2015-2016.

Ongoing recipients of this stipend in our department are  Mirabelle Huynh (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-2016), and Di Xu (2014-15, 2015-2016).

The Pierre Robillard Award winner is Ying Yan, University of Waterloo

The Pierre Robillard Award is awarded annually by the SSC to recognize the best Ph.D. thesis in probability or statistics defended at a Canadian university during the previous year. This year's winner is Ying Yan, University of Waterloo (supervisor: Dr. Grace Yi) for his thesis, "Statistical Methods on Survival Data with Measurement Error".
