Postdoctoral position in Biostatistics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in biostatistics, with specific emphasis on spatial and spatio-temporal modeling, or joint modeling or change-point models, with applications in infectious diseases. In particular, the successful candidate will develop novel statistical models for infectious diseases when covariates are measured with error. The position will be based at the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Charmaine Dean.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Biostatistics, or a related field. She/He will have strong skills in statistics, computing and mathematical modeling, and a demonstrated record of research. This position is supported by the new Mathematics for Public Health (MfPH) initiative, funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). This is a program to develop a national network of infectious disease modellers and public health policy makers that can rapidly respond to public health emergencies. The MfPH initiative is a pan-Canadian, Emerging Infectious Disease Modelling (EIDM) multi-disciplinary network co-led by Fields Institute Director, V. Kumar Murty, and York University mathematics professor, Jianhong Wu. The goal of the network is to develop advanced mathematical techniques for the study of potential health crises and to train a cohort of mathematical modelling experts to help achieve public health objectives.  More information can be found at Mathematics for Public Health.
