Waterloo Engineering’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025 was launched this month to ensure the Faculty is recognized as the epicentre of innovation and entrepreneurship for Canada and the world.

The Faculty’s third formal strategic plan is intended to direct Waterloo Engineering activities for the next five years.

The document is based on the Faculty’s vision with the goal of inspiring leaders to define new frontiers in education, entrepreneurship and research to better serve society and create a better future for generations to come.

Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is the result of a two-year process. Led by the Engineering Planning Committee, it involved comprehensive self-studies by the Faculty’s departments, schools and administrative units as well as wide consultation with faculty members, staff and students.

The plan was produced by synthesizing the goals submitted from each department, school and administrative unit. In the coming months, the units will continue to develop their individual strategic and implementation plans, including performance targets and outcomes for the next five years.

Building on success of previous plans

Over the last two years, five priorities and their accompanying goals were identified, which will continue the momentum that already exists to ensure an environment that enhances opportunities for Waterloo Engineering students, researchers and staff members to pursue their aspirations.

“With optimism and clarity, Waterloo Engineering’s 2020-2025 strategic plan builds on the success of our previous strategic plan and will further our quest to become the epicentre of the world’s technology talent,” said Pearl Sullivan, dean of Waterloo Engineering.

The Faculty created its strategic plan in parallel to the University of Waterloo’s strategic plan, which is also intended to direct activities from 2020 to 2025.

Throughout the development process of the University-wide plan, knowledge sharing took place between Waterloo Engineering and University administration representatives to ensure integration and collaboration. The Faculty will continue to engage in the implementation of the University’s strategic plan.
