Dr. Richard Myers has a long history of building strong communities and promoting excellence in undergraduate education. Born in Chatham, Ontario, he went on to receive his BA, MA, and PhD in political science from the University of Toronto, and co-authored the popular Canadian introductory textbook, The Canadian Regime.

Most recently, as president of Algoma University, he substantially improved relations with the local community and with Aboriginal partners in the area, while growing enrolment and revenues. Prior to that, Rick was vice-president academic at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, where he not only taught for 25 years, but also coached varsity basketball. He also served a term as chair of the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission.

In 1994, Rick won the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for his work in promoting harmonious relations between Anglophones and Francophones in the Province of New Brunswick.
