Harnessing the power of peer pressure

In the last federal election in 2011, only 38.8 percent of 18-24 year olds voted. Fourth-year environment and business student Mavis Chan hopes to change that number by encouraging higher voter participation among students at the University of Waterloo.

Business models from MaRS

This summer, St. Paul’s GreenHouse is partnering with the MaRS Discovery District, Canada’s largest innovation centre based out of Toronto, to offer entrepreneurial workshops at the College.

Planting seeds of change

When Lexi Salt took on a small plot of land at St. Paul’s University College of the University of Waterloo, she did it because she wanted to make a tangible and lasting difference — but she had no idea of what the seeds she planted would really grow into.

Applying the creative process

Following the GreenHouse trip to the Felt Lab, the cohort held a meeting back in the GreenHouse discovery space to take the brainstorming process they had experimented with the night before and use it to examine each other’s ideas.

The inception of ideas

Known for its Mennonite roots, the town of St. Jacobs is a popular tourist destination. In between the shops and restaurants of the town’s commercial core is the Felt Lab, an open exhibit of new creations in the world of interactive technology.
