120 golfers and 30 volunteers participated in the 2014 St. Paul’s Masters Tournament raising $27,000 for the GreenHouse program. In its seven year history the tournament has contributed more than $200,000 toward scholarships, programs and facility renewal.

One highlight of the event was when St. Paul’s GreenHouse alumna Christina Marchand (BSC ’14) gave an emotional and inspiring talk during lunch about her experiences helping to deliver babies in Uganda. Those experiences taught her that she could do more to make a difference and upon returning to Waterloo, joined St. Paul’s GreenHouse. The programming and mentorship she received while in GreenHouse helped her launch FullSoul Canada.

Another inspired moment was when Bill Watson (BA '76) was announced as the 2014 recipient of the Andrew J. McCarthy award for his tireless dedication to the golf tournament. Previously the award has been presented to Dr. Richard and Linda Jussaume as well as Bill Nelson.

While there was much to be celebrated, the tournament also provided the opportunity to recognize the passing of three very important members of the St. Paul’s community: long-time golf tournament sponsor Celia Liu of the Oban Inn, golf tournament planning committee member and alumnus Tom Dabrowski (BMATH ’77) and second year International Development student and incoming residence Don, Alex Foto.

11th Annual Traditional Pow Wow biggest yet!

Crowd watching the Pow WowDancers in regalia on the St. Paul's green

The beautiful weather helped bring out close to 1,000 people for the 11th Annual Pow Wow at St. Paul's.

A mini-Pow Wow event in Uptown Waterloo during the Open Streets event in mid September helped grow the audience of the Traditional Pow Wow at St. Paul's.

Reunion weekend participants and members of the local community were treated to the wonderful sights and sounds of dancers and drummers in full regalia. The bright sunshine and lead up events helped ensure a record turnout for the 2014 Pow Wow.

Also in attendance were many local dignitaries and guests representing the various event sponsors. This year's sponsors included Scotiabank Multicultural and Aboriginal Banking, TD Bank, The Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation, Office of Aboriginal Initiatives at Wilfrid Laurier, the Equity Office at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo Region Record, the Faculty of Engineering and Renison University College.
