Socially minded youth get innovation funding from St. Paul’s GreenHouse

Student innovators from the University of Waterloo received a total of $5,000 in funding from the St. Paul’s GreenHouse Social Innovation Fund on April 7. St. Paul’s GreenHouse is the first and only live-in campus-linked accelerator in Canada focused on social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Big winners for Big Ideas Challenge

A company that uses smartphone technology to improve vision care in India was among the big winners at a pitch competition designed to elicit big ideas in health and wellbeing. The other winning pitches consisted of ways to address mental health issues among students, heart-friendly meal delivery and meaningful leisure for older adults, and support for breast cancer survivors.

A first aid kit for mental health and custom-fit compression sleeves for breast cancer survivors are just two of the startup ideas teams will pitch at the inaugural Big Ideas Challenge for Health and Wellbeing on Monday at 4 pm in Alumni Hall at St. Paul’s.

St. Paul's hosts unique Aboriginal Entrepreneurship workshop this weekend

The Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre will be hosting its newest initiative, an Aboriginal Entrepreneurship workshop, from March 27-28. Up to 20 Aboriginal high school students in grade 11 and 12 will embark on a learning adventure to explore the fundamental aspects of entrepreneurship and experience university life. Students will learn new ways of thinking as they collaborate in teams and receive guidance from university and business instructors.
