The social impact fund was established in 2014 by St. Paul’s University College to support the testing and development of early-stage, ideas from GreenHouse Innovators.
The Social Impact Fund (SIF) was established in 2014 by donors from the St. Paul’s University College community. The SIF is used to support GreenHouse students in advancing their ideas into action. As a donor, your contributions support students with the resources they need to build and test prototypes with stakeholders as the progress towards validating their solutions and launching their ventures.
The recipients of the SIF are celebrated 3 times a year at the Social Impact Showcase.
146,500CADTo-date, 83 student ventures have received grants to grow their venture.
1,211,048CADSIF recipients have gone to secure additional follow-on funding and revenue as they grow their ventures.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are set in place to help the world move towards a more just society. Our students have come up with some amazing ideas that contribute to some of these goals. Team members Danial Betres, Victoria Li and Jon Dhanapala are engineering students working towards equitable healthcare worldwide. Emre is developing an electronic medical record system to help support medical professionals in providing high quality healthcare to conflict stricken nations.
Zied Etlab noticed that bedsores are the number one hospital-induced illness, affect more than three million people and Curiato was developed to try and solve it. Today, Curiato produces hospital beds that continuously monitors patient data and contributes to healthcare systems.
Most black women cannot walk into any hair salon and receive appropriate hair care, and Be Blended solves that. Aileen Agada used her time at GreenHouse to create a platform for black women to be able to find hairstylists that cater to their hair types.
Cassie Myers has developed Lunaria Solutions to decrease inequality, and increase diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She was also recognized as one of 50 Changemakers in the Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine for 2021.
Aaiman entered GreenHouse wondering why there are significantly less number of women than men in STEM fields. Currently, she is an author who features women in STEM to encourage more young girls to pursue careers in STEM, and tackle the gender gap.
Richard Yim (right) lost a relative at a young age due to a landmine incident. After joining GreenHouse, Richard Yim created a robot that safely removes landmines to avoid others from being injured. He has also been acknowledged in Forbes 30 under 30 Asia for all the extraordinary work he has been doing in Cambodia.
Marlena Books produces age appropriate books that are easy to read for people living with Alzheimer's. Rachel's grandmother (right) has Alzheimer's, and is unable to read large books like she used to. When Rachel (left) saw older individuals reading children's books for leisure, she realized that the contents of these books are not age appropriate, and created Marlena Books.
