Moving in and out of the Grad Building

We look forward to welcoming you to your new home. Here's some information that will help you arrive prepared.

Timing

Your move-in date is provided on your apartment lease or suite/private room agreement. These dates are set as close as possible to the beginning of the month of a new term.

You may move in any time after 2 pm on the first day of your agreement period. If you will be arriving after this date or after 4 pm, please let us know in advance to arrange for a staff member to assist you. Please note that there are no storage facilities on site.

Arrival

Before you arrive, please take a few minutes to review the information available to Current Tenants so you understand what is provided to you and expected of you as a tenant.

If you are arriving on the specified move-in day, go to the welcome desk located at the main entry of the building (Student and Guest Services).

Your keys will be issued to you once all your documents are signed and you may then take possession of your unit.

Apartment tenants sign a lease and a termination of lease agreement on arrival. You will also get a corresponding Appendix A and Appendix B, outlining the rules and regulations that are part of your agreement. You may find these documents here.

If you are living with a spouse, partner, or dependents, you must send us their names before your move-in date. Your spouse, partner, and/or co-occupants need to sign for their own keys upon move-in.

Suite tenants will be issued the corresponding Appendix B outlining the rules and regulations for your unit (See the document here). The name(s) of your suite-mate(s) will be available when you move in.

All tenants sign a key sign-in form.

Save yourself time by making sure your computer is set up and you are familiar with the Internet service available before you arrive.

Each unit is cable-ready — it is equipped with wiring for cable television. If you wish to subscribe to cable television, please contact Rogers at 1-888-764-3771. You will be billed directly by Rogers for your cable service.

As with most rental units, you bring your everyday materials with you.

Move-out time

If your apartment lease or suite contract has not been renewed, please vacate your unit by 12 noon on the last day of your contract.

Key return

Keys also need to be returned no later than 12 noon on the last day of your contract. An amount of $150 will charged if keys are not returned by this date and time. In order to maintain the safety of tenants, a late return of keys cannot be accepted.

Inspection

Approximately one month prior to the end of your contracted period, you will be notified of your unit inspection date. This inspection occurs approximately two weeks before you go.

A Maintenance Supervisor will enter your unit and check all appliances, fixtures, and surfaces, and note the general cleanliness. A checklist will be left in your unit detailing the findings.

If the event that the condition of your unit is unsatisfactory, a second inspection date will be scheduled. Please ensure that you clean accordingly before this date.

Fines will be imposed for any outstanding items not attended to by the second inspection date, or for any damage to the unit. All tenants of the unit are equally responsible for the upkeep of all shared living areas in the unit.
