Stratford story: Art-Mersion

How can we experience art in new ways using interactive technology? This was the question at the core of Art-Mersion, an event which took place at the Button Factory in Uptown Waterloo this past March. Being a Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) student here at UWaterloo Stratford, I was naturally drawn to see what this was all about.

The creation of FIPS, a new CFI research space

Together with our colleagues in Computer Science, Jessica Thompson and I have received a grant from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for the creation of a facility for Fully Interactive Physio-digital Spaces (FIPS), a globally unique research facility for Human-Computer Interaction

Glitch

The A-Zed of Audio

It's broken - don't fix it.

This is the unspoken motto in the world of glitch music. To anyone who has used a computer, the word 'glitch' shouldn't be terribly foreign: glitches are errors. Things that are broken, not the way they're supposed to be, like potholes in a road or cracks in a window. Usually we work to avoid these broken-nesses but some cr/azy folks among us actually use these as the palette they paint with.

Meltdown at Currents International Festival for New Media Arts

In June I travelled to Santa Fe New Mexico for the Currents International New Media Art exhibit to exhibit my project Re-Collect. Re-Collect is a sound and light installation built in collaboration with sound designer Michal Seta – Michal works at the SAT – the Société des Arts Technologiques a very cool space that specializes in high-tech projection and dome works. Re-Collect was placed in the main space of El Museo Cultural, which boasts 2,000 square feet of exhibition space. The exhibition lasted for 2 weeks and exhibited works of over 60 artists from all over the globe.
