Blogging about life at UWaterloo

All bloggers sitting togetherA new school year means new students and eight UWaterloo students will be blogging their way through new experiences. Hear from a (not so secret) ninja, a handstand master and an off-campus student as they share budget tips, how they maintain school/life balance and more. Read on as we share your new favourite blogs (besides this one, of course).

Karissa Manning

Karissa is a first-year Knowledge Integration student from Hagersville, Ont. She is looking forward to a fresh start at university and taking advantage of all of the new opportunities and experiences at UWaterloo. Karissa's
blog
focuses on keeping a healthy lifestyle, exploring the local art/music scene, and sharing money-saving tips. Karissa also hopes to visit every Hard Rock Café in the world!

Tatiana MorandTatiana is a second-year English Literature, Honours Arts and Business student from Brockville, Ont. She is a vegetarian, a Whovian, and she considers herself (not so) secretly a ninja. Tatiana’s
 blog
focuses on the reality of being in her second year and embracing it while not managing her stress levels. She uses her second-year wisdom to answer questions from other students, but admits she doesn’t always have all the answers. She is looking forward to knowing her way around campus this year and plans to spend some time thinking about her life goals.

Helen Zhang

Helen is an international Honours Arts and Business (Co-op) student from Taiyuan, China. She collects stuffed animals and is excited to make new friends in her first year. Helen’s blog focuses on events and information that the everyday student needs. She also gives insight on how to feel comfortable when starting a new school in a new country.

Carlee Knight

Carlee is a first-year student in International Development from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She travelled to Kenya twice during her gap year in 2013 and hopes to someday go back and work there. Carlee is interested in meeting new people this year and plans to share her experiences on her blog, Adventures that Lie Ahead.

Kingsong’s blog is already full of photos and stories about his experiences so far at UWaterlooKingsong enjoys doing handstands, and he looks forward to answering any questions on his blog.

Jessica MendesJessica is in second-year Honours Arts at St. Jerome's this year. She is from Oakville, Ont. and is “obsessed” (her words) with the Harry Potter books, complete with an annual re-read of the series. Jessica is excited to have academic freedom to study what she is interested in. She is also looking forward to meeting her professors and students with similar interests. Jessica’s blog focuses on her second-year student experience while living off campus.

Erica McDonald

Erica is a first-year student in Health Studies (Co-op) from Georgetown, Ontario. On Erica’s blog, Running With Textbooks, she will talk about the gym, the cafeteria, lectures, and everything else from the perspective of a first-year student. Her favourite meal of the day is breakfast, and her favourite fun fact is that sea otters hold hands while they sleep so they don’t float away from each other. She looks forward to embracing living on her own, decorating her dorm room and making new friends.

Rachel LaiRachel is a first-year Computing and Financial Management student from Richmond Hill, Ont. She played varsity rugby in high school and has dreamed of being a UWaterloo studentfor as long as she can remember.
