The ultimate number cruncher

Akash KapoorHere's someone who really knows his numbers. Out of approximately 4,000 students, a recent UWaterloo grad achieved the highest standing this year on a nation-wide exam.

Master of Accounting grad, Akash Kapoor was given an award for having the closest to perfect solution on the Chartered Accountancy Uniform Final Examination (UFE), a competency-based performance evaluation for individuals wishing to enter the accounting profession.

Not only that, but Akash also graduated with the highest academic standing amidst all graduating faculties, including in the Master of Accounting program where he graduated with the highest average in the program. His dedication to success in learning was directly related to his various achievements including his Co-op Student of the Year award and, of course, his success on the UFE.

Akash reflects fondly of his time at the University of Waterloo. The faculty and professors at the UWaterloo School of Accounting were supportive in Akash’s studies and professional development. He also gives praise to the variety of co-op experiences that invested in his development and helped in his UFE training.

My time at the University of Waterloo will always remain to be the best years of my life as I significantly developed professional acumen, technical skill, and with the renowned co-op program also had the opportunity to put it all to work.

Akesh credits his success on the exam to his strong technical competence, developed from accounting and tax courses followed by additional training sessions at UWaterloo. He also studied with a group of four people and emphasized his gratitude for their contribution to his success on the exam.

Akash gave advice to future UFE writers:

My biggest advice would be to take the process seriously and put in your best effort. Give it your best shot the first time around because that is what matters most. Besides that, it is great to study in a group setting and also spending time to debrief cases on your own to really highlight your weaknesses and improve on them. Also, be confident!

Akash is currently working at Ernst and Young in Toronto within the Assurance group.
