Behind the screens at Waterloo Orientation 2013
Have you talked to Phil Everson recently? If you’re one of this year’s new students, chances are you have been chatting with the Management Engineering student – or at least one of his team members. Last week, Phil oversaw seven other upper-year students, with varying interests in media, photography, social media and marketing, who brought live updates from Waterloo Orientation.
The team used 5 iPhones, 3 Androids, 4 Macs, 4 PCs, 4 DSLR cameras, and 4 iPads to tweet, Facebook, and Instagram the Orientation festivities. They also facilitated daily live chats every morning from 8:30am – 1am to further engage with and answer student questions.
Phil said, “We’ll know we’ve been successful with this project when we offer consistent and active engagement with first years while providing accurate information, at the right time.”
With 447 mentions for the @UWOrientation twitter account in just one week, Phil and his team certainly seem to have achieved that goal. The heavy stream of #UWOW13 tweets that streamed onto the Twitter walls at Warrior Welcome was just one sign that students were consistently engaging with the team all week long.
The accounts will stay active through September to help students transition into the uWaterloo environment, so keep sending Phil and his team your questions on the Waterloo Orientation Facebook page, @UWOrientation on Twitter, and @UWorientation on Instagram.
