Pharmacy student recognized nationally

Danielle Paes may or may not have “started from the bottom”, but now she’s here. “Here” is eight months away from graduating from the Rx2014 class in the Waterloo Pharmacy program, and most recently, receiving the 2013 Commitment to Care & Service Award (CCSA) for Student Leadership.

The CCSA Student Leadership award is presented in recognition of strong academic performance combined with leadership in pharmacy organizations and/or other professional activities – all of which Danielle has certainly accomplished. This year alone, Danielle sat on the pharmacy admissions interview panel at the university, was the student council’s member representative for the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists and was elected as a Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns (CAPSI) executive, where she is editor of the national newsletter.

She also found time to release two pharmacy-focused video spoofs: “Call the Pharmacy” and “Started from the Product”, which you can watch below. On all the ways she has contributed over the years, Danielle said, “Promoting students comes naturally to me, because I truly believe not only in what we do, but also in what we can do. I am excited about our expanding role in the health care system and have endeavoured to share my enthusiasm in the best way I know how – by getting involved!”

Danielle will surely continue her climb to the top in the New Year. She will be spending her final co-op term working at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and is attending the CAPSI Professional Development Week 2014 Conference in Vancouver this January.

You can learn more about Danielle’s work on the School of Pharmacy website, and watch her parody video “Started from the Product” below.
