A student of distinction

Holly MeginnisFor the fourth year in a row, a UWaterloo student has been recognized for her dedication and leadership skills by the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) as the recipient of the Student of Distinction Award

The OPA's Student of Distinction Award is given to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy and exhibiting the qualities of a strong leader. Fourth-year Pharmacy student, Holly Meginnis, is just that. Her passion for pharmacy led to her involvement with organizations both on and off campus. Along with her responsibilities as Class Representative for her year, Holly acts as the UWaterloo Senior Representative for the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns (CAPSI).

Being involved with CAPSI is incredible. My favourite part of being involved with CAPSI is meeting with the National CAPSI Council. CAPSI National features pharmacy students from all across Canada and being involved in this council has taught me about the profession of pharmacy all across our country...it was inspirational to see pharmacy students from all across Canada coming together to advocate for the profession.
She is also involved with the Graduation Committee and has volunteered with the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP). It was during her time at CSHP that Holly was able to decide on her next career steps.

Being involved with CSHP helped me learn more about hospital pharmacy and that was a major factor in helping me to decide to apply for a hospital residency position.
When looking back on her time at the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy, Holly is appreciative of all the support and knowledge that was given to her and her fellow classmates. Many of the events that Holly coordinated throughout her time at Waterloo were generously supported by the staff and faculty, who donated both their time and resources.

Being recognized for her achievements by the Ontario Pharmacists Association has been a great honour for Holly, who knows she is on the right path to becoming a pharmacist that will make a difference. And at the very heart of Holly's passion for pharmacy will always be the patients.

The patients are what inspire me. Pharmacy focuses around patient care and I strive to make a positive difference in patients' lives on a daily basis.
