Scam alert - CRA refund scam

Please be aware of an ongoing email scam targeting people filing a 2019 income tax return. The fraudsters claim a refund for a specific amount (e.g. $441.34) has been issued to the recipient, which will be deposited on credit card. The recipient is directed to log in at the CRA Revenue Office Portal and follow the instructions on the screen, including entering credit card details. 

What you need to know: 

  • The Canada Revenue Agency will not email you a link asking you to fill in an online form with personal or financial details.
  • The Canadian Revenue Agency will not send you an email with a link to your refund.
  • My Account is the name of the official Canadian Revenue Agency online portal. 
  • It is important not to respond to the sender or click on the link.
