Nature and Scope:

Each year, the Student Success Office hosts a series of virtual events within Waterloo Ready to help incoming international students feel prepared for their transition to UWaterloo life and Canadian culture. These events include a scripted webinar with an informal Question and Answer section, and two Ask Me Anything events with a variety of topics.

Hosts must be available for all three virtual events and for the official dry-run approximately one week before each event. Dates will be confirmed by the time of interview. Webinar hosts will also be featured on the Student Spotlight page of the International Student Guide.

We are seeking dynamic and enthusiastic international students to be hosts for this webinar.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing 30+ minute-long scripts collaboratively
  • Sharing stories about your time at Waterloo
  • Delivering engaging live presentations
  • Public speaking
  • Interacting with an online audience
  • Answering live questions verbally and through writing
  • Acting as a welcome ambassador for incoming international students

Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform naturally on camera
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be able to perform under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Preferably have experience with social media live hosting, acting, or public speaking
  • Passionate about helping other international students navigate life on campus and in Canada
  • Open to sharing personal stories
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing to be considered for the role

Required Dates:

  • Webinars will be hosted on various dates between July and August. Each webinar will also have a required dry-run one-week prior.
  • Weekly meetings are mandatory and will occur at a group-agreed time and date.
