Intercultural Learning Specialist

''''As Intercultural Learning Specialist, Sandra López-Rocha is responsible for the development and support of intercultural learning initiatives within the SSO, such as the Global Experience Certificate (GEC), and serves as a resource for intercultural learning projects across campus. Coordinating the GEC, she is the principal administrative contact and liaison with all students, staff, and faculty associated with the program.

Sandra previously worked as a lecturer and Year Abroad Coordinator at the University of Bristol in the UK. She obtained her PhDs from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the University of Bristol, focused on intercultural communication, education, sociolinguistics, and anthropology. Sandra enjoys the opportunity of helping students develop intercultural competencies and skills to enhance their employability and supporting them in the process of obtaining a GEC; it’s no surprise that her favourite spot on campus is the office where she works and all the greenery around it! When not in the office, Sandra loves spending time with her husband and cats, watching movies, taking photos (most of them of cats), and exploring the Canadian countryside.
