More information on confirming your credit card details

I received an email asking me to confirm my credit card information. What is this about? Is it legitimate?

This email was sent to you from the University of Waterloo because we are changing vendors for credit card processing. Because your credit card information is stored in a secure environment, we do not have access to it and therefore we cannot simply move your information to our new system. To continue with your gift, we are asking you to update your credit card information online or by phone.

The email we sent you contains a link to our secure gift processing website where you can update your credit card information. Or if you prefer, we can update your information with you over the phone at 1-800-408-8715.

Why can’t I just mail in my information?

New credit card industry (PCI) rules ensure your credit card information is even safer than before. Businesses and organizations can no longer ask for or accept credit card numbers that have been written down on paper. We can, however, update your information with you over the phone and enter it into our secure system while we have you on the phone.

Was my credit card information compromised?

We have always been in compliance with PCI rules and therefore your information has always been held in a safe, encrypted system. When we receive your new information, your old information will be deleted from our system.

What if I’m having problems entering my details into the online form or the information on the form does not match the information in the email I received?

Please call us at 1-800-408-8715 during business hours (8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday) and one of our representatives will assist you.
