The University of Waterloo invites you to a public lecture with three leading researchers on climate change. As the local and global conversations on the topic continue to expand, these speakers will explore the basic science of climate change, its implications for society, and progress made to address one the largest challenges of our times.
The lecture will be moderated by Jean Andrey, Dean of the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo.

Speaker Information:
Professor Maria Strack is a Canada Research Chair in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, and explores the feedbacks between wetlands and climate. She leads the Wetland Soils and Greenhouse Gas Exchange Lab and participates in several peatland restoration projects across Canada. Maria will share some of the core science behind climate change, and how our understanding has evolved over time.
Professor Blair Feltmate focuses his research on establishing a climate change adaptation program for Canada and on the value of sustainable development for a variety of industries. He is the program director for Sustainability Practice and chairs the Climate Change Adaptation Project Canada. Blair will describe what we can expect to see as climate change progresses and the impacts and implications for societies.
Professor Ian Rowlands is a leading energy expert whose research covers sustainable energy management, Ontario residential energy consumption, and renewable electricity. He is a participant in the Energy Hub Management Project, sits on the Independent Electricity System Operator’s Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and is a board member of Sustainable Waterloo Region, among other roles. Ian will provide an overview on the progress towards mitigating climate change.
