Combating Fast Fashion: DIY Clothes Mending

Wednesday, November 10, 2021 5:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Do you have a hole in your favourite sweater? Curious about how to reduce your waste? Come to our DIY Clothes Mending Workshop!

Picture
Hosted by Elysha, founder of Worth Mending, this workshop aims to teach participants how to mend their clothing by using a simple needle and thread.

The goal is to reduce your footprint while also diverting clothing waste from the landfill. Clothes that end up in landfills contribute to wasted & polluted water; soil degradation; rainforest destruction; greenhouse gas emissions; clothing waste; microfibers. Mend/donate/recycle clothes instead of throwing them out is an excellent way to repurpose old clothes!

There are a total of 14 free kits available for any beginner interested in learning a new skill. These kits are first come first serve and include a t-shirt to practice sewing on, patches, needle and three different coloured thread. Kits are free to be picked up at the Sustainability Office (EV1-301) Monday - Friday (9:00am-4:30pm)!

The Sustainability Office encourages people to test their skills on their own clothing or material they may have and bring their own needles.
