Artificial intelligence

What are the practical uses of artificial intelligence and how can it give the Canadian economy the push it needs without relying on the giant tech companies?

Join us for an intimate complimentary lunch, exclusively for systems design engineering alumni, where Dr. Alex Wong, Canada Research Chair in Medical Imaging Systems, co-director of the Vision and Image Processing Research Group, and an associate professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering, shares his deep insight and world leading expertise on AI in a talk titled Toward Operational Artificial Intelligence: Anywhere, Anyplace, Anytime.

Then, led by Professor Paul Fieguth, chair of the Department of Systems Design Engineering, take a personalized tour of the Systems Design Maker Space recently outfitted with new equipment through the generosity of a systems design alumni couple.

After the tour, you will be escorted to the System Design Capstone Design Symposium at the Davis Centre where you can spend the rest of the afternoon (or as much time as you'd like) connecting with our current 4th year students who will display their SYDE projects until 5:00 pm.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Alexander Wong  has published over 300 refereed journal and conference papers, as well as patents, in various fields such as computational imaging, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and multimedia systems. In the area of artificial intelligence, his focus is on operational deep intelligence (a pioneer in evolutionary deep intelligence, discovery radiomics, and random deep intelligence via deep-structured fully-connected graphical models).

Parking: Lot C is available for entry by coin or credit card at a rate of $5 per day.
