Computer Vision in Long-Term Care: Challenges and Opportunities

Wednesday, October 6, 2021 10:00 am - 10:00 am EDT (GMT -04:00)

Computer vision systems can play an important role in providing care to individuals living with physical or cognitive disability. This talk will provide an overview of several vision-based systems under development for such purpose. Examples include ambient monitoring of pain in older adults with dementia and ambient monitoring of fall risk in older adults residing in long-term care facilities.

He also holds an Assistant Professor appointment at the University of Toronto, in the Department of Computer Science and in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (status only). His research applies computer vision technologies to solve real-world health care challenges in support of healthy aging and in rehabilitation and the management of chronic conditions. A main focus of his work is to move away from the laboratory and contrived situations towards the development of technologies that work reliably in natural settings, such as in the home or in long-term care.
