Alumni take flight with UAVs at Aeryon

The Aeryon Scout UAV is the brainchild of Waterloo alumni Dave Kroetsch (BASc ’02, Computer; MASc ’07, Mechanical), Mike Peasgood (BASc ’98 & MASc ’04, Systems Design; PhD ’08, Mechanical) and Steffen Lindner (BASc ’92 & MASc ’95, Systems Design). Their combined interest in UAVs and determining a market need for small Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) UAVs was the spark they needed to create their product. [Full story]

Alumnus leads retail operations for Starbucks Asia

Born in Uganda and raised in Canada, Nishad (BASc ‘95, Systems Design) now leads all retail operations for Starbucks Asia. His time at Waterloo helped prepare him for this, and not only through course content. “The long hours, problem solving and addressing unexpected challenges were all part of the Waterloo experience for me and definitely contributed to my career.” [Full story]

Morteza Ahmadi and Professor John T.W. Yeow win excellent paper award

System design graduate student Morteza Ahmadi and Professor John T.W. Yeow have won an excellent paper award at the 2011 IEEE Nano conference in Portland, Oregon for their paper "Theoretical Calculation of Radiation Induced Conductivity in Nanomaterials." [Full story]
