Eric Migicovsky is a systems design graduate and founder of Pebble Technology, makers of a new smart watch that recently raised more than $10M. When asked if the systems design program at Waterloo helped or hindered his journey as an entrepreneur, Eric said “100% helped. Best undergraduate engineering program for people who like to work on projects (design and build things). A++ would attend again. Also, the coop program at Waterloo really helps you see what working at real companies is like.
Dr. Yeow has been awarded one of the first ever Soochow University (China) - Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology grants for the project entitled, “Graphene-based NEMS Ultrasonic Transducers for Monitoring Clusters of Biological Cell.” This 3-year grant will allow Dr. Yeow to build a long and lasting relationship in Nanotechnology with Soochow University.
Systems design engineering professor, Alexander Wong, a co-director of the VIP research group, recently won the Early Research Award from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation. His research into the early detection and localization of prostate cancer, which was featured in the Waterloo Region Record, may offer hope to the more than 25,000 men diagnosed annually with what is the third leading cause of cancer death in the male population.
