SYDE Masters student highlighted for her research

Linda Wang, a SYDE Masters student, was featured in a research story about rethinking research during the pandemic that highlights her research in artificial intelligence and computer vision.

When she started her engineering master’s degree in 2018, Linda Wang had no idea her research would be used to help detect a potentially deadly global virus less than two years later.

Instant laser imaging could guide brain surgeons

Researchers at Waterloo Engineering have taken an important step in the development of a microscope to precisely guide doctors during surgery to remove brain tumors.

For the first time, they used laser imaging technology to almost instantly identify cancerous tissue with accuracy comparable to laboratory tests that take up to two weeks.
