SYDE Prof recognized for work with AI and medical images

A researcher at Waterloo Engineering has been recognized by an international magazine dedicated to laboratory medicine for his work using artificial intelligence (AI) and medical imaging to diagnose cancer.

Hamid Tizhoosh, a professor of systems design engineering, was named to the 2020 Power List released annually by The Pathologist.

SYDE Graduate Students publish at ECCV and CVPR

A novel method developed by graduate students from Kimia Lab, Waterloo Engineering, Mohammed Adnan (1st-year MASc.), and Shivam Kalra (2nd year Ph.D.) has the potential to have a major impact in histopathological image analysis and cancer diagnostics. Their technique uses artificial intelligence (AI) to render digital representations of extremely high-resolution biopsy images.

New chair named to lead systems design engineering

An experienced professor is leaving Vermont to join the University of Waterloo as the new chair of the Department of Systems Design Engineering.

Lisa Aultman-Hall, who comes to Waterloo as a tenured full professor by way of the University of Vermont, the University of Kentucky and the University of Connecticut, is scheduled to assume her post as chair Aug. 1 for an initial four-year term.
