Waterloo Engineering spinoff recognized by United Nations for sustainable AI innovation
A company that was co-founded by two Waterloo Engineering professors has been recognized by an agency of the United Nations (UN) for its contributions to a state-of-the-art facility to farm crickets as a source of protein.

Congratulations to Professor Jonathan Li, who was inducted as a 2022 Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC). This designation recognizes “excellence in engineering and services to the profession and to society”. Professor Li is cross-appointed in the departments of geographical and environmental management and systems design engineering and leads the Geospatial Sensing and Data Intelligence Lab.
Kimia Lab wrapped up 2021 with a move into their newly renovated space in Engineering 2. After many years of working dispersed in several buildings, the team is thrilled to have a new facility for 25 researchers.
