SYDE Graduate Symposium 2022

Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) graduate students came together for the 2022 Graduate Symposium on June 23. The Symposium featured 21 graduate students presenting their research in four topic areas: Image & Signal Analysis, Biomedical Engineering, Human Factors, and Systems Modelling & Simulations. The event also featured a keynote presentation by SYDE graduate alumni Deitra Sawh, Manager, Risk Control Operations, Ontario Financing Authority and Robert Bowerman, Chief Technical Officer, Kognitiv Corporation.

Celebrating SYDE's Class of 2022 Valedictorian

Convocation is a special time to celebrate a significant milestone. For the first time in two years, the University of Waterloo invites the graduating class to celebrate their accomplishments in front of families and friends during the in-person celebrations throughout the week.

The Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) class valedictorian was selected by their peers, in recognition of their social and academic contributions to the Waterloo community, to represent the graduating class at the SYDE convocation ceremony.

PhD student, prof honoured for computer vision paper

A doctoral candidate and a professor at Waterloo Engineering teamed up this week to take a best paper award at the Conference on Robots and Vision 2022 in Toronto.

Professor John Zelek and PhD student Zobeir Raisi won the honour for best computer vision paper with a submission called Occluded Text Detection and Recognition in the Wild.
