WPIRG is happy to present a free event featuring stand-up comedian Aamer Rahman (formerly of Fear of a Brown Planet) and the KW Poetry Slam. Join us as we kick off another Fall term of social and environmental justice organizing and take in the critically-acclaimed politically conscious comedy of Aamer Rahman and the amazing talents of the KW Poetry Slam.

Aamer Rahman is a standup comic, writer, graphic artist and activist based in Melbourne, Australia. His comedy covers issues of race, immigration, the War on Terror and Batman. Previously one half of the critically acclaimed duo Fear of a Brown Planet, he has performed internationally – selling out shows at some of the world’s largest events including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has recently supported major acts such as Dave Chappelle. Aamer will be performing The Truth Hurts, his first comedy special as part of his North American tour.

‘His wry sardonicism keeps the laughs, and the insights, coming.’ Guardian

‘Smart stand-up with a fascinating angle.’ Chortle

‘The forcefully intelligent Rahman has the Malcolm X factor.’ Adelaide Advertiser

“The proverbial bull in a china shop, Rahman blatantly treads the most delicate of lines. This is confronting, uncompromising political comedy at its best – and designed to hit hard.” – Soho Theater, London, UK.
