Scholars Forum with Andy MartinExport this event to calendar

Wednesday, November 4, 2020 4:00 PM EST

andy martinAndy Martin is a PhD candidate at Regis College, Toronto School of Theology. Andy will present a paper entitled "Identifying the Sacramental in Anabaptist-Mennonite Spirituality." This research comes out of his dissertation on "Old Order Mennonite Spirituality: An Analysis of Historical Parallels and Mystical Elements of a Contemporary Anabaptist Ascetic Community." This research identifies ascetical and mystical themes in medieval monasticism that can be found in Anabaptist-Mennonite, and ultimately Old Order Mennonite spirituality. Andy has published articles in The Mennonite Quarterly Review, Journal of Mennonite Studies, and Brethren Life and Thought on Anabaptist-Mennonite and Old Order Mennonite spirituality. In his MTS thesis from Conrad Grebel University College, Andy wrote about the influence of Protestant fundamentalism on the conservative Mennonite movement which broke from the "old" Mennonite church beginning in the late 1950s. Andy is a Registered Psychotherapist and works with adolescents and adults, individuals, couples and families. He is actively involved in the church with music, adult education, preaching and is a board member of Bridgefolk, a bi-national lay movement of Catholics and Mennonites who through friendship and humility meet to explore and enrich each other's contribution to Christ's mission.

The Scholars Forum will take place virtually. RSVP for a link and instructions to connect.
