• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): Our global rank in AIS research productivity per the BYU rankings is #8 at the end of 2021. It is important to recognize that the BYU rankings are based on a small set of accounting journals that omit the top tier MIS journals that members of the Centre have published in.

• Efrim Boritz and Theophanis Stratopoulos were the senior editors of the AAA Journal of Information Systems for the three-year period ending Dec 31, 2022 and continue handling manuscripts under review until Dec 31, 2023.  

• UWCISA: Announcing the Incoming Editors for the Journal of Information Systems (JIS)

• Special issue of IJAIS for 2021 Symposium papers published in fall 2022.  
• Status: 2022 Done; 2023 planning in progress

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): A workshop was held on December 7, 2022 on the impact of AI on the Accounting Profession.  A commentary based on this workshop will be published in JIS in mid-2023.

• JIS Online Workshop on AI & the Accounting Profession: Views from Industry and Academia 

• Status: Done 

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): A workshop will be held in Spring of 2023 on Business Model Reporting and Assurance.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): A workshop is being planned for 2023 on SOC reports and competencies for conducting SOC-related consulting and assurance engagements.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): We have an alliance with CPA Canada which is the primary sponsor of UWCISA. We have participated in several initiatives including the redevelopment of the IT competency map, assurance innovation, and information integrity project.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): We have a partnership IIA Canada and the Toronto Chapter of IIA. We are also working with IIA to increase student awareness about relevant careers and create a more formalized academic / employment path for the same.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): Efrim Boritz is a member of the AICPA Trust Services Information Integrity Task Force and the Cybersecurity Working Group.  

• Status: Ongoing - updated SOC guidance was published in 2022; Cybersecurity developments are being monitored.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): We have an alliance with the IJAIS (International Journal of Accounting Information Systems) through its co-sponsorship of the Symposium and related special symposium issue of the IJAIS. 

• Status: Recurring - special issue for 2021 was published in 2022; planning for 2023 is in progress.

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): We have an alliance with the SET (Strategic and Emerging Technologies in Accounting) section of the AAA which relates to the JETA (Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting).

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): The CAAA (Canadian Academic Accounting Association) was a symposium sponsor in 2017 and  2019. 

• Status: Ongoing

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): CaseWare IDEA was a gold level  event sponsor of the 2019 Symposium and the Data Analytics Workshop and Panel held as part of the Symposium in 2017.  

• Status: Ongoing

• Activities during current fiscal period (cumulative): Development of international network of centres with similar purposes continues. We have agreed to create a virtual international center for education (VICE) whereby we will share course offerings among center members. We created a course titled International Topics in Assurance which was offered over 12 weeks from May to July 2022. The course consisted of 6 modules offered by Waterloo, Rutgers, Duisburg and Durham. The topics were Assurance Services, Continuous Monitoring, Process Mining, ESG Assurance, AI/ML Assurance, and SOC and Related Assurance services. The enrollment was 20 UW MAcc students. Several Rutgers students also participated in some of the classes.
