Understanding the legal system in Canada is critical foundation for any water researcher. Law and policy are key tools for implementing water science across the country. Water policy expert, Anastasia M Lintner takes us through the basics in this interactive conversation covering topics such as sources of law, the public policy cycle, division of powers, parliament governance and the legislative process. She highlights opportunities for engagement, particularly as it relates to freshwater policy and complements the discussion with a story about how the Great Lakes Protection Act was passed in Ontario.

Having practiced environmental law for almost 20 years, Dr. Lintner has shifted her career towards being a non-practicing lawyer & consultant. She is a former assistant and/or adjunct professor in the fields of environmental economics, environmental law, and leadership, having taught and researched at various institutions, including University of Guelph, Balsillie School of International Affairs, and Queen’s University.
