The institute is pleased to announce the “Seleucid Study Day II”. Following the successful “Seleucid Study Day I” held at the University of Exeter in August 2011, the institute will host a research workshop on Wednesday November 9, 2011, in Hagey Hall 334, University of Waterloo.
Participation is free and guests are welcome, though they are kindly requested to contact Dr. Altay Coşkun in advance.
The institute hosted Professor Elizabeth Carney, of Clemson University. Sponsored by the Onassis Foundation through its University Seminar Program, Prof. Carney lectured in a graduate course, participated in a senior undergraduate seminar on Hellenistic Portraits and Personalities, gave a presentation to the university community, and provided advice in research. A historian who has published on topics that include Alexander, Arsinoë, and women in military leadership, Dr. Carney is conducting a study into the lives and careers of Hellenistic women in political positions.
The Centre for Hellenistic and Romano-Greek Culture and Society (Exeter) and the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies invite you to a Seleucid Study Day.
Papers will be of up to 20 min length, followed by up to 20 min discussion. Abstracts will be circulated among all participants early in August.
