 e\nelectricity system. With the decarbonization efforts and growth in\neco
 nomic development\, increased electrification is forecasted to\ndouble in 
 the next 20 years.  The problem has been defined as costing\n$500 billion
  in electricity infrastructure needs\, but it can be\naccelerated through 
 innovation and technology.  Data\, AI\, modeling\,\nand distributed energ
 y resources are key components to solving the\nproblem. The Essex Power Po
 werShare DSO initiative is moving the\nindustry forward to deploy technolo

DESCRIPTION:TITLE:\n\nKeep decarbonizing and carry on: what are the GB netw
 ork stability\nchallenges on our way to net zero?\n\nABSTRACT:\n\nThe Grea
 t British electricity sector is rapidly evolving to meet net\nzero require
 ments. In 2023\, Wind power contributed 29.4% of the UK’s\ntotal electri
 city generation\, and a peak of 87.6% of the electricity\nwas generated us
 ing carbon-free resources. The transition is not free\nfrom challenges\, e
 specially regarding stability.  The severity of\nthese challenges was ill
 ustrated on the 9th of August in 2019 when\nareas of England suffered a bl
 ackout partially due to the incorrect\nsetting of power electronics conver
 ters in an offshore wind farm. The\npresentation will explore some of the 
 recent stability events in GB\,\nthe research involved in understanding th
 em better\, and the solutions\nthat have been adopted.\n\nBIO:\n\nAgustí 
 Egea-Alvarez is a Reader (Associate Professor) at the\nElectronic & Electr
 ical Engineering department and a PEDEC (Power\nElectronics\, Drives and E
 nergy Conversion) group member. Also\, he is\nthe holder of a Royal Academ
 y of Engineering Industrial Fellowship\nwith ScottishPower. He obtained hi
 s BSc\, MSc\, and PhD from the\nTechnical University of Catalonia in Barce
 lona in 2008\, 2010\, and 2014\nrespectively.  In 2015\, he was a Marie C
 urie fellow at the China\nElectric Power Research Institute (CEPRI). In 20
 16 he joined Siemens\nGamesa as a converter control engineer working on gr
 id-forming\ncontrollers and alternative HVDC schemes for offshore wind far
 ms. He\nis a member of IEEE\, and IET and has been involved in several CIG
