One-Day Workshop on Decarbonization Challenges for Canada’s Electricity Grid
The IEEE Kitchener-Waterloo Section PES Chapter, in collaboration with the IEEE PES Ottawa and London Chapters, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and the Waterloo Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE), is hosting a one-day workshop titled: "Facing the Challenges: Achieving Decarbonization Goals for the Electricity Grid in Canada."
With Canada's goal of an emissions-free electricity grid by 2035, this workshop will address key challenges and opportunities in the decarbonization journey. This event provides an essential forum for professionals, students, and sustainability advocates to explore the complexities of this critical transition.

WISE Public Lecture
WISE is pleased to announce a hybrid WISE Public Lecture with Patricia Romero-Lankao. Please join us in person or on Zoom to discuss energy transition and climate change. The presentation will explain how a group of social scientists engaged with communities in Los Angeles to operationalize three equity principles in the transition to 100% clean energy by 2035. The speaker will draw lessons on options and barriers to centering equity in technological innovations in energy and describe how these lessons inform the Justice Network for Equity in Sustainability Transitions, a new research program at the University of Toronto.

WISE Public Lecture
WISE is pleased to announce the public lecture by John Avdoulos. Join us for a discussion on building a clean, affordable, and reliable electricity system. With the decarbonization efforts and growth in economic development, increased electrification is forecasted to double in the next 20 years. The problem has been defined as costing $500 billion in electricity infrastructure needs, but it can be accelerated through innovation and technology. Data, AI, modeling, and distributed energy resources are key components to solving the problem. The Essex Power PowerShare DSO initiative is moving the industry forward to deploy technologies to enable DER’s at a faster pace.
