Guest blog by Shehnoor Nasir, Academic Affairs Commissioner.

Hello Waterloo! I am Shehnoor Nasir, and I am excited and privileged to be your new Academic Affairs Commissioner. I am a fourth-year student majoring in political science with a minor in speech communications, who transferred to Waterloo in my 2B term from Calgary.

My involvement on campus greatly increased since coming to Waterloo because of the support and opportunities I found here. I began by volunteering for the Women’s Centre on campus which significantly built my confidence to pursue other positions. Eventually, I was hired by Waterloo’s Professional Development Program to work as an EDGE ambassador and I was elected as an Upper Year Representative for the Political Science Student Association’s executive team.

I had the pleasure to meet wonderful people through these positions and each student had a story to tell about their own experience on campus, which prompted my interest in student advocacy.

I learned that many students come across similar issues in their academic careers and aren’t aware of the services available on campus that can help them address their predicaments.

As Academic Affairs Commissioner, I hope to bridge the gap between students and the resources they can access to navigate through their problems by raising awareness about them. Similarly, I’ll be sitting on Policy 70-72 drafting committee with faculty members and the administration to represent student interest. Last but not at all least, I’m really excited to continue the legacy of my amazing predecessors in overseeing the execution of the Feds’ Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.

I am more than happy to answer any questions about these responsibilities and you can reach me at I hope you all have an amazing start to the new year!
