Well Warriors, it’s officially October! The first month of school has come and gone, and now full fall-mode is upon us. Time to break out the sweaters, turtlenecks and blanket scarves. That much anticipated Thanksgiving dinner is right around the corner… did someone say pumpkin-spiced everything?

Whether it be Halloween, scary movie marathons or pumpkin patch visits, October is a month full of everyone’s favourite festivities. Aside from the fall staples that everyone loves there’s TONS of WUSA-related events that you can add to your October calendar.

Check out some events taking place throughout the month of October that you don’t want to miss:

The Glow Centre

The oldest continually-running university-based LGBTQ group in Canada, the Glow Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity uses a variety of events and campaigns to promote healthy attitudes towards all sexual orientations and gender identities in the Waterloo community. Past events have included movie and board games nights, teatime talks between peers, and a semi-formal dance.

From October 8-11 and October 21, Glow is celebrating Coming out Week! 


October 8, Glow with the Flow

  • When: 4-8 p.m.
  • What: Networking and matchmaking event

October 9, Tales from Beyond the Closet

  • When: 2-4:30 p.m.
  • What: Speakers invited to talk about LGTBQ+ related topics

October 10, Lavender Coffee House

  • When: 6-9 p.m.
  •  What: Poetry slam and other performances

October 11, Button Making at Glow

  • When: All day!
  • Where: The Glow Centre (SLC 2102)
  • What: Materials provided by Glow to make buttons

October 21, Drag Show + Sex Toy Bingo

  • When: 7-10 p.m.
  • What: A queer and trans-inclusive event, featuring a drag show and sex toy bingo

The Bike Centre


Your one-stop shop for bike repairs and termly bike rentals! The Bike Centre offers a budget-friendly way for students to get around Waterloo and repair their bikes.

October 6, Bike Maintenance 101 Workshop

  • When: 7-8 p.m.
  • Where: SLC 0101
  • What: Workshop teaching basic bike maintenance and repairs

Student Food Bank

The Student Food Bank offers an accessible way for UW students in need to get groceries. Run entirely by dedicated student volunteers, this valuable service is completely confidential.

October 10, Food Bank Face-Off!

  • When: During the Battle of Waterloo football game (game time is at 7 p.m.)
  • Where: Warrior Field
  • What:  Food Bank Face-Off! 2019. An event where the WUSA Student Food Bank will be competing against the Laurier Food Bank in raising donations (both food and money). The booths will be right next to each other where anyone (UW students, Laurier students, community members) can donate in close proximity to the game


Wellness Days

Wellness Days is a joint initiative organized by WUSA, Waterloo Athletics and Recreation and Campus Wellness to foster healthy physical and mental wellness on campus. Wellness Days exist to promote de-stressing and self-care amongst the student population.

October 7, Pop-Up Snack Cartdog-therapy

  • When: 11 a.m. to noon
  • Where: SLC Great Hall

October 25, Free Massages

  • When: 1:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Where: SLC Clubs Community Centre

October 29, Self-Care Pop-Up

  • When: 10:30 a.m., until supplies last.
  • Where: SLC Great Hall


Okay Warriors, it’s time to get political. October is a BIG month for politics! Whether or not politics is your “thing” the importance of being present in political debates and issues is still there. We are the generation that can influence elections and advocate for change – which goes for both the federal election and the political matters that take place on our own campus. Vote, vote, vote!

October 9, 100 Debates on the Environment [external link]climate-strike-inside

  • When: 7 p.m.
  • Where: ML Theatre of the Arts
  • What: “An all-candidate debate on the environment in the lead up to the next federal election. The aim is to create a Canada-wide conversation between candidates and constituents about the environment.”

October 22, General Meeting

  • When: 4:30 p.m.
  • Where: SLC Great Hall
