The federal government announced the implementation of its new Canadian Emergency Response Benefit, filling the welfare gap for many Canadians not eligible for Employment Insurance (EI). This benefit would provide substantial support to many students, including co-operative education students who were not able to complete their work term.

We thank the government for this action which will help our members. This action is now among others, including the suspension of payments and interest on the federal portion of student debt, and other expenditures to respond to the virus.

We wish Parliament and the federal government well during this trying time and will continue to bring to their attention ways to protect and assist our members though this crisis.
