Waterloo, ON – Earlier today, the University of Waterloo announced a “combined approach” for the fall 2020 academic term, with large classes online and some in-person classes and supports where possible.

While we support following the advice and expertise of public health officials, we want to ensure high-quality education and best-practices in assessment are put second, only to our students’ safety. We remain committed to advocating for safe, affordable and high-quality education and will continue to support students with online services and resources, transitioning them back to campus when permitted.

We know from our recent survey results that many students are apprehensive about what an online term might look like. We encourage you to email your VP Education, Megan Town. The stories of your successes and struggles will better inform her advocacy to University administration on your behalf.

We also encourage you to email your VP Student Life, Nada Abouelnaga and provide feedback on our online events and how we can keep you connected while you study online.

If you are experiencing financial pressures as a result of COVID-19, we encourage you to apply for our Student Emergency Support Fund, before applications close on May 31. Please also continue to make use of the following support services:

  • MATES is offering Skype appointments for peer support. Email mates@wusa.ca to book an appointment

  • Empower Me provides 24/7 access to a trained counsellor and can be reached at 1-844-741-6389

  • Counselling Services is also available online. Call 519-888-4567 ext. 32655 to schedule an appointment
