International Undergraduate Bursary

Awarded to full-time international undergraduates in second-year or above who can demonstrate exceptional or unexpected financial circumstances.

As an international student, you’re expected to have sufficient funding to meet your education-related costs. If this is not the case, you must provide supporting documentation along with a detailed explanation to confirm your situation.

Maximum assistance is $6,000 effective Sept 2020 per fiscal year (May 1 – April 30).

Your Mental Health

Interacting with others through a screen can be taxing on more than just your eyes. It can really take a toll on your mental health and state of mind. Below, we've put together a list of mental health supports we hope you'll reach out to this term and in the future.

Student Assistance Program: EmpowerMe

  • Both undergrad and grad students can access this service from anywhere in North America, 24/7. By dialing (toll free) 1-844-741-6389, you'll be connected to a trained counsellor and can request to speak to one in your preferred language.

MATES

  • MATES is offering online Skype-based appointments. Please email MATES if you'd like to chat with them!

Campus Wellness Counselling Services

  • Counselling Services are available by phone and video Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To book an appointment, call 519-888-4567 ext. 32655. Keep up with their latest updates on their news page.

Good2Talk

  • Good2Talk provides confidential support services for post-secondary students in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Ontario students can reach them at 1-866-925-5454 or by texting GOOD2TALKON to 686868


Your Physical Health and Well-Being

Health Services

The University has opened its own on-campus COVID-19 assessment and testing centre. It is located in the Health Services building, with plans to open additional locations on campus in the near future. For the health and safety of our campus community, it will only be open to students and employees of the University.

A medical referral is not necessary to get tested, but students and employees will need to make an appointment through Health Services.

Starting October 1, 2020, the University of Waterloo will post information provided to us by public health units on positive cases of COVID-19 amongst students and employees who attended one of our campuses. WUSA Health Plan

Your Student Health Plan covers most medical needs and has expansive drug coverage, no matter where you are in the world.

Those who will be outside of Canada during the 2020-2021 academic year will have an opportunity to request a full refund July 5-19, 2021. StudentCare has a handy little infographic with all you need to know.


Your SLC services

Student Life Centre (SLC) and Turnkey

Student Life Centre and Turnkey are open Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 7:00 PM. You'll notice directional signage at your feet when you enter. We ask that you please follow the arrows and signs and register with the University's check-in system up arrival.

On an exciting note, your WUSA Student Planners are now available for pickup at the Turnkey desk.

Society Presidents are authorized to provide for digital submission of any cheque requests less than or equal to $100, but must provide a confirmation email to Gurpreet at g6saini@wusa.ca.

Cheques can be picked up at the Turnkey Desk if you elect not to have them mailed to your address. We will try to proactively inform you when cheques are ready for pick-up, but we would appreciate your patience during this time as delays may occur.

Financial Support for Students

checkmark  WUSA created an emergency student support fund from the Student Life Endowment Fund to help students who are struggling financially as a result of COVID-19, and called on the University to match our contribution

checkmark  We called on the provincial and federal governments to provide student loan relief, and secured a moratorium on interest and payments on student loans for the next 6 months
