Current practices in managing content

Maintaining a departmental website is usually an add-on to someone's responsibilities. While the process of updating sites has been simplified through the use of better tools (e.g. Contribute), the task of maintaining content is still too difficult. In addition, use of Dreamweaver templates do not provide sufficient separation of content from presentation. Members of the committee suggest that we:

  • continue our research into the use of Content Management Systems. They are already being used successfully on campus.
  • simplify the task of developing visually appealing, Common Look & Feel (CLF)-compliant Web sites by providing a set of templates/ toolboxes for our Web developers;
