  1. Approval of the minutes of the July  meeting

The minutes of the July meeting were accepted as distributed.

  1. Business Arising

None

  1. Responsive Design (Jonathan Woodcock)
  • Assessment being done by our testers right now; will take feedback from this on September 28th and plan out the next steps.
  • The hope is to have a version of responsive out by year end.
  • The requirements gathering that took place over the summer provided us with a lot of good information; the goal is to provide as much of a design specification as possible to give to the developers.
  • Requirements gathering for the events feature was a clear priority for everyone involved; we are now asking this committee to help us identify what should be the next item to begin requirements gathering.
    • Woodcock will send out a survey to WAC members to help determine the next priority.
  1. Campus Map is now live

There will be a seminar this Friday morning (September 18th) to talk about the work that went into the Campus Map.

  1. Waterloo CMS update (Andrew McAlorum, Kevin Paxman, Heather Wey)
  • WCMS Publications
  • Service Level Expectations (SLE)
    • We wrote an SLE document for the web development team and our services and distributed it to the WAC mailing list.
      • Take a look at it; it shows the relationship and expectations of the service provider and the client.
  • Personal sites
    • Faculty and researcher websites are highly requested; we are scheduled to begin work on this in October.
    • An initial assessment has been done and we are looking at using Open Scholar.
    • If anyone is interested in this, please contact Andrew McAlorum.
  • Training
    • Migrations
      • 510 sites live
      • 49 in progress (9 Publication sites)
    • Content:
      • Workshops
        • In order for your workshops to show up in the Student Portal, you should post workshops as events.
        • If you currently post your workshops on a webpage (outside of events) they won’t be available in the Student Portal.
        • If it’s important that your site has a workshop menu item, use the workshop webpage to give an overview of the workshops offered and then link to the event tag for a listing of upcoming dates for the workshops. This allows students to select their preferred event feeds to appear in their portal.
    • Opportunity content type
      • For job/volunteer opportunities.
      • The Opportunity content type will populate the Opportunities landing page with job/volunteer opportunities. Students can view opportunities in Student Portal.
      • The Point of Contact for the site will need to request that the Opportunity content type be enabled.
    • WCMS Training & Support staff announcements
      • Carly McLeod has left the university to accept a teaching position at a high school in the town of St. Mary’s.
      • Andrea Jennings, WCMS Training & Support Lead, will be teaching the WCMS SEW courses until a new staff member is in place and brought up to speed.
    • Web courses for Sept/Oct
  1. Best practices for writing on the web (Marta Bailey)
    • At this time there is no style guide for writing for the web (there is one for print).
      • Dawn Charlton and Andrea Sweet are working on the brand refinement project and will come to next month’s WAC meeting to discuss.
      • It would be beneficial if WAC members were to voice their specific needs prior to next month’s meeting to ensure they are reviewed.
      • It would not necessarily need to be a completely different style guide for the web, but there needs to be specific references to writing for the web.
  2. Web Steering/Chair’s remarks
  • Already covered by Andrew McAlorum and Jonathan Woodcock.
  1. Other Business
  • Covered under item #6.
  1. Meeting Adjournment
