It seems like 2018 flew by, and with it the first full year of development for the Archives Unleashed Project. Led by Ian Milligan, Nick Ruest, and Jimmy Lin and supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Archives Unleashed project has three core objectives:
- Develop and build an open-source toolkit;
- Deploy the Archives Unleashed Cloud as a one-stop portal for analyzing web archives; and
- Organize datathons to provide hand-on learning opportunities to work with web archives at scale and develop a sustainable user community.
Accessibility is the core value of our project. It’s not just enough to collect and have web archives, there needs to be an accessible means of analyzing and exploring them at scale. The Archives Unleashed Toolkit and Cloud accordingly offer an opportunity to bridge an accessibility gap among librarians, archivists, scholars, and researchers.
